A daily injection approved for one use: excess belly fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Its trials measured fat around the organs, and its label says it is not a weight-loss drug. Read the Tesamorelin guide
Approved only as Egrifta, for excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Its label says it is not indicated for weight loss. Egrifta became a biologic (BLA) on March 23, 2020, and FDA says compounded versions of these products do not qualify for the 503A or 503B compounding exemptions.

- Tirzepatide Headache: What the Labels and Trial Results RecordedHeadache is not on either tirzepatide label's list of common side effects. In the posted weight trials it was usually within 2 points of placebo, with a wider gap in people with type 2 diabetes.
- Does Tirzepatide Make You Tired? What the Trials and Labels ShowIn the Zepbound weight trials, 5% to 7% reported fatigue against 3% on placebo, more often early on. Low blood sugar, low blood pressure and dehydration can all feel the same.
- Does Glutathione Help With Weight Loss? What the Human Studies MeasuredNo trial has tested glutathione for weight loss. Studies show it can raise blood levels and may improve insulin sensitivity, but where weight was recorded, it did not change.
- Ozempic Diarrhea: How Common It Is, How Long It Lasts and When to CallDiarrhea affected about 9% of people on Ozempic in the diabetes trials and 30% at the higher Wegovy dose. Most cases came while the dose was being raised.
- Ozempic Stomach Paralysis: What Trials and Case Reports ShowOzempic slows stomach emptying, and its label says it is not recommended for severe gastroparesis. A scan study, two claims studies and 13 case reports show what that means.
- Can Ozempic Cause Low Blood Sugar? Hypoglycemia Risk, Symptoms and Who Runs LowOzempic alone rarely drops blood sugar too far, because it raises insulin only when sugar is high. The risk climbs with insulin or a sulfonylurea, and lows have been reported without diabetes.
- Can Ozempic Cause Kidney Problems? Kidney Injury, Dehydration and the FLOW TrialThe Ozempic label warns of acute kidney injury, mostly after dehydration from stomach side effects. The same label carries an approved use to slow kidney disease, based on the FLOW trial.
- Ozempic Pancreatitis: The Label Warning, the Symptoms and What Trials ShowThe Ozempic label warns that acute pancreatitis, including fatal cases, has been seen with GLP-1 drugs. Pooled trials found no clear increase, while one small claims study did.
- Ozempic and Depression: What FDA's Review of Suicidal Thoughts FoundFDA's January 2026 review found no increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior with GLP-1 drugs, and no increased risk of depression in 91 trials. The warning came off the Wegovy label in February 2026; the Ozempic label does not carry it.
- Ozempic Blindness: NAION, Vision Loss and What Regulators ConcludedThe vision-loss concern is NAION, a sudden loss of blood flow to the optic nerve. European regulators call it a very rare side effect of semaglutide, the U.S. labels do not list it, and the European regulator puts the extra risk at about one case per 10,000 person-years.
- Ozempic Thyroid Cancer Risk: The Boxed Warning, Rodent Data and Human StudiesOzempic's boxed warning comes from thyroid C-cell tumors in mice and rats. The label says the human risk is unknown, rules out people with MTC or MEN 2, and the large human studies since have disagreed.
- Intermittent Fasting and GLP-1 Drugs: What the Guidance and Fasting Studies ShowNo trial has tested intermittent fasting added to a GLP-1 drug for weight loss. A 2025 clinical advisory says to keep regular mealtimes, fasting alone matched ordinary eating in a 12-week trial, and the only fasting data on these drugs come from Ramadan studies in diabetes.
- Does Ozempic Cause Dehydration? The Kidney Warning, Trial Rates and Fluid GuidanceOzempic does not dry you out by itself. Its label ties dehydration to fluid lost through nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, which in rare cases injured the kidneys. Here is how often, when, and what guidance says about fluids.
- Ozempic and Coffee: The Tablet's 30-Minute Rule and What the Pen Label SaysThe Ozempic injection label never mentions coffee. The semaglutide tablets do: plain water only with the dose, then at least 30 minutes before any other drink. Here is why, and what coffee studies say about reflux, hydration and appetite.
- Ozempic Feet: Foot Drop, Numbness and Heel Pain in the GLP-1 EvidenceNeither label mentions the feet. The documented problem is foot drop from a pinched nerve at the knee after fast weight loss, seen in case reports and a case-control study, while the fat pad under the foot has never been measured on these drugs.
- Ozempic Breasts: What Studies Show About Breast Size, Shape and DensityNo GLP-1 trial has measured the breasts. Breast tissue is mostly fat, and after weight loss surgery one study measured a 39.4% fall in breast volume, with density on mammograms often rising as fat left faster than gland.
- Ozempic Butt: What the Trials Measured Below the Waist, and What They Never DidNo semaglutide or tirzepatide trial has measured the buttocks. The scan studies report the whole body, visceral belly fat and the thigh, and they show fat falling everywhere, with visceral fat falling by the largest share.
- GLP-1 Medications for Seniors: What the Labels Say After 65No GLP-1 label's geriatric section sets a separate dose after 65, and each reports no overall difference in effectiveness by age. But the weight trials enrolled few people over 75, and in the Wegovy heart trial, hip and pelvis fractures at 75 and older were 2.4% against 0.6%.
- Wegovy for Teens: What the Label and the STEP TEENS Trial ShowWegovy injection is labeled for weight reduction from age 12. In the 68-week trial behind it, BMI fell 16.1% on the drug and rose 0.6% on placebo, while nausea and gallstones were more common. Ozempic and Zepbound carry no teen label.
- Ozempic While Breastfeeding: What the Labels and Milk Studies ShowInjected semaglutide was undetectable in the milk of eight nursing mothers, and a single tirzepatide dose left 164 of 171 samples below detection. The labels ask for a risk-benefit call, except for Wegovy tablets, where breastfeeding is not recommended.
- Ozempic and Gallbladder Problems: What the Labels and Trials ShowGallstones were reported by 1.6% on Wegovy against 0.7% on placebo, and the Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound labels all warn about gallbladder disease. Across 76 trials the excess was largest at weight-loss doses.
- Ozempic and Anesthesia: What Guidance Says About SurgeryGLP-1 labels warn of rare aspiration under anesthesia and say the data cannot yet show whether pausing helps. Five societies advise most people to continue, and studies find food left in the stomach in about half of users.
- Sulfur Burps on Ozempic and Zepbound: What the Labels CountDrug labels call it eructation. Wegovy 2.4 mg reported it in 7% of adults against under 1% on placebo, and Zepbound in 4% to 5% against 1%. No label or study records the sulfur smell itself.
- Why Is B12 Added to Semaglutide? Glycine, B6 and Niacinamide TooCompounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are sold with B12, glycine, niacinamide or B6. The approved labels contain none of them, FDA names the B12 mix as a possible copy, and no trial tests any combination.
- Does Sublingual Semaglutide Work? What Studies ShowCompounded semaglutide is sold to dissolve under the tongue, while the approved tablet must be swallowed whole. The only absorption data come from rats and minipigs.
- Cagrilintide: What the Amylin Trials Actually MeasuredAn amylin receptor agonist, tested mostly as half of CagriSema. It added 6.5 percentage points of weight loss to semaglutide over 68 weeks, and the FDA says it cannot be compounded.
- AOD-9604: the rat study behind the fat-loss claimAOD-9604 is the fat-burning fragment of growth hormone. The result it is sold on is a 19-day rodent study from 2000, and the drug program behind it stopped at phase II.
- Tirzepatide and Birth Control: What the Label RequiresSwitch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for four weeks after starting and four weeks after every dose increase. A single 5 mg dose cut peak ethinyl estradiol by 59%, though total exposure fell only 20%.
- What to Eat on Tirzepatide: What the Trials PrescribedThe label asks only for a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. About 25% of the weight lost in the SURMOUNT-1 scan substudy was lean mass, and in a real-world cohort higher protein intake tracked with keeping more of it.
- Semaglutide for PCOS: What the Trials Have Actually MeasuredFour randomized trials, 176 women and only 23 of them on semaglutide. Waist circumference fell 2.42 cm and testosterone fell; insulin resistance did not move. A 100-woman trial found 6.09 kg lost with metformin against 2.25 kg without.
- Tirzepatide Plateau: When Weight Loss Slows in the TrialsMean loss reached 20.9% on 15 mg at week 72 and had barely moved by week 176. But at week 36, near where many people describe stalling, the average participant still had a further 5.5% to come.
- What Happens When You Stop Taking Tirzepatide: The Trial DataIn SURMOUNT-4, people switched to placebo after a 20.9% loss regained 14.0% of body weight over 52 weeks, while those who continued lost a further 5.5%. In clinical practice, average regain over the year after stopping was 0.5%.
- GLP-1 Muscle Loss: How Much of the Weight Lost Is Lean Mass, and What Limits ItGLP-1 drugs remove more fat than lean tissue, but about a quarter of the weight lost is lean mass in several pooled analyses, similar to diet alone. Resistance training lowered that share most, and no study has yet measured strength.
- How Long Does It Take for Tirzepatide to Work? Appetite, Weight and the Week-12 MarkAppetite changes within weeks: a 6-week trial measured about 525 fewer calories at a test lunch by week 3. Weight loss builds for months, and in SURMOUNT-1 most slow starters had caught up by week 72.
- NAD for Weight Loss: What Human Trials of NAD+ and Its Precursors FoundSearches found no trial that gave NAD+ itself by injection to test weight loss. Oral precursor trials in adults with overweight or obesity mostly found no change in weight or body fat, and a 2026 NMN meta-analysis found no significant effect on weight.
- Ozempic and Alcohol: Can You Drink on Semaglutide, and Does It Curb Drinking?Neither the Ozempic nor the Wegovy label has a drinking warning, but its pancreatitis, low blood sugar and dehydration warnings are where alcohol matters. Three randomized trials found semaglutide cut some drinking measures in alcohol use disorder.
- Ozempic Face: What Studies Measured and Whether It Is the Drug or the Weight Loss"Ozempic face" is not a listed side effect. The first imaging study found about 7% of midface volume lost per 10 kg of body weight, and similar changes after bariatric surgery point to the weight loss itself.

- Tirzepatide Diarrhea: Trial Rates, Timing and the Steps Guidance ListsIn the Zepbound weight trials, 19% to 23% reported diarrhea against 8% on placebo. It mostly came during dose increases and eased over time, and guidance puts fluids first.
- How Much Weight Can You Lose on Semaglutide? What the STEP Trials MeasuredAdults without diabetes lost about 15% of body weight over 68 weeks on 2.4 mg, and half lost 15% or more. People with diabetes lost less, the 7.2 mg dose added about 3 points, and most of the loss returned within a year of stopping.
- Liraglutide Dosage: The Saxenda and Victoza Dose Steps, and the 16-Week RuleThe weight label climbs from 0.6 mg to 3 mg daily over five weeks, and the diabetes label stops at 1.8 mg. Stop if an adult has not lost 4% by week 16, the weight label says. In the dose-finding trial, more drug meant more weight lost.
