MD Live
A large insurer-backed telehealth service whose primary care doctors can prescribe FDA-approved GLP-1s, but only if your health plan includes its virtual primary care.
Review by Leah Garner, clinical-evidence editor · Updated October 2026
The short version
MD Live treats weight as an ongoing primary care condition, with a doctor visit before any prescription and only FDA-approved drugs. The limit is access: the weight program is open only to members whose health plan covers its virtual primary care. It also excludes four states.

MD Live is a virtual care company founded in 2009 and owned by Evernorth. It offers urgent care, mental health, dermatology and primary care, mostly as a benefit through health plans and employers. Weight care runs through its primary care service. Its doctors may prescribe Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda or Contrave. The FAQ says it never uses compounded or unapproved drugs.

The drugs named are Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda and Contrave, all FDA-approved. They are prescribed at the doctor's discretion and not in Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi or New Jersey. Prescriptions go to your local pharmacy, or by mail order where the drug allows it. The doctor checks which drugs your plan covers and can request pre-approval. No dose of its own is printed: each drug follows its label.
Each “From” figure is the seller’s own starting price, in the unit the seller states. Where a required fee or a package length changes what one month costs, the smaller line under it is our arithmetic, not a figure the seller prints. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved.
Who prescribes
A licensed clinician
Clinical care comes from MDLIVE Medical Group (DE), P.A., MDLIVE Medical Group, PA and other affiliated professional entities, which the footer names on every page. The terms describe them as independent, physician-owned groups with a national network of US-based providers. The weight page says the doctors include board-certified obesity medicine and lifestyle medicine specialists. No individual clinician is named on the pages read. You can choose a dedicated primary care doctor and keep seeing the same one.
You create an account, and the site shows whether your plan includes primary care and what the copay is. You then have a telehealth consultation with a primary care doctor, by phone or video, booked as a Routine Care visit. GLP-1s can be prescribed only in that visit type, never in a wellness screening or urgent care visit. The doctor reviews your history and may order labs before deciding. Follow-up visits act as check-ins on your progress. A coaching app shares your weight and meal logs with the doctor between visits.
Are labs required?
If the doctor orders them
Labs are ordered when the doctor thinks they are needed. The weight page mentions integrated labs to diagnose obesity, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. A yearly wellness screening includes a lab visit, typically at a $0 copay on participating plans. No lab price is published for anyone outside that.

What it claims, and what it cites
The weight page makes no outcome claim with a number attached. The primary care FAQ gives an example goal of 5% to 10% weight loss, framed as a target the doctor sets, not a result. The about page says more than 60 million people can use MD Live as a covered benefit. No source is given for that figure.

How it bills
No price for the weight program is published. Your visit copay and your drug cost both depend on your health plan, and the site shows the copay after you log in. The home page says primary care can cost $0 on participating plans. A Routine Care visit canceled within 2 hours of its start carries a $25 fee, waived for Medicare and Medicaid members. Another FAQ promises a full refund when you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Refunds go through the customer service line.
